Brief biographical information
ismini.vasileiou@dmu.ac.ukIsmini Vasileiou (FBCS, SFHEA) is an Associate Professor and Subject Lead(Head of Department) in Information Systems at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK. Leading the team on Information Systems, supporting research-informed teaching and promoting enterprise activities between academia and industry.
Dr. Vasileiou's research interests include Social Engineering, Security Education, Information Systems, Big Data and Technology-supported Learning. She holds an EdD in Flexible Learning for Computing Degrees in Higher Education, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of BCS. She is actively involved in academic delivery at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as the supervision of BSc, MSc and postgraduate research(PhD). Dr Vasileiou has previously published on topics including flexible learning, security education, and technology-supported delivery, and has delivered a variety of invited presentations and keynote talks into relation to topics such as unconscious bias and stereotypes in STEM topics. Dr Vasileiou has extensive experience on running successful projects supporting both academia and industry such as Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) projects, led and developed the Degree Apprenticeship scheme.
Dr. Vasileiou is currently actively involved in professional body activities for the computing sector and current roles BCSWomen as the EDI officer, and the BCS Learning and Development Specialist Group and has previously served as BCS Branch Chair and various University wide committees. She was a successful Athena SWAN lead and has led various policy changes across the institutions. Has worked extensively on Unconscious Bias training material and can deliver it as and when needed.
